Today marks the birthday of our beloved United States Marine Corp. Doing research online, I came across several pictures like the one above including an article from CNN that the Marines are using motorcycles in the war against the Taliban.
BRD, a new startup, was tapped to make the motorcycle that runs on electric, fuel, and jet fuel. When switched to electric, the motorcycle is almost silent. The idea of course is to be able to cover large distances in shorter times.
Interviewed by CNN, Golembesy, a U.S. Marine, stated that Marines started buying cheap bikes at Afghan bazaars and after some custom work, including painting the bikes in camouflage, began using them on their missions. In 2012, the Marines began a formal training program.
This was news to me but my immediate reaction was I guess the Marines thought they weren’t bad ass enough, so now they are kicking butt on motorcycles as well. God bless the United States Marine Corp.
