Spearfish Canyon South Dakota

Spearfish Canyon is located in the Black Hills National Forest. If staying at the northern end of the Black Hills, you could take other routes to areas such as Deadwood and Custer State Park, but why would you?

Instead of taking I-90, cut through Spearfish Canyon and take the scenic route. You are only adding approximately twenty miles more to your ride each way. This will be one of the most scenic rides you will ever take. Don’t miss the opportunity!

******

You will be riding parallel to Spearfish Creek and come across Bridal Veil Falls and Roughlock Falls. Bridal Veil is easily visible and accessible from the byway  (US 14A). You can park across the street and be safe on the viewing platform where you can take great photos. Roughlock Falls requires more time to visit since you have to walk a trail about a mile long, but there are picnic areas along the way.

If you get hungry, stop at Cheyenne Crossing for lunch and a cold one. You won’t be disappointed.

Enjoy.
