He exploded on the music scene in the infamous 80’s. He was different to say the least. And his music? What is that? No one ever heard anything like that before. But he was one bad ass mutha…. Hell, he made purple cool. Only Prince could have pulled that off.
The only thing cooler is when we all found out he was making a movie. No wait, when he rode in on his motorcycle in his movie, now that was the coolest. Maybe you wouldn’t admit then or now, but you thought to yourself, that is one bad ass ride. Again, only Prince could make a Hondamatic CB400A with hot pink velour inserts cool. But Prince didn’t stop there, legally, he was also a trailblazer for artist’s rights.
It’s been more than three decades since the world was introduced to Prince, and his music today is still as great and influential to other artists as it was back then. We still sing the lyrics to “When the Doves Cry,” “Purple Rain,” “Kiss,” “Little Red Corvette,” “Raspberry Beret,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” and who has not said at least one hundred times in their life time, “let’s party like it is 1999!”
I know what I will be listening to next time I go for a ride on my motorcycle.
