BMW Motorrad recently introduced its HUD motorcycle helmet (Heads Up Display) at the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas.
The heads-up display projects necessary information in the rider’s field of view which includes amazing features such as fuel level, tire pressure and speed. A camera in the front records your ride while a rear helmet cam works like a rear-view mirror. This motorcycle helmet even allows you to know where your friends are and program your route to meet up with them. Watch the video below to get a better understanding.
However, BMW isn’t the only company jumping on the HUD Helmet bandwagon. Nuviz as well has jumped into the market however, their module can be fitted to any full face helmet. Skully has also created a HUD helmet.
Heads up Display technology has been around for a while. I had it in 2003 with a Chevrolet Corvette. While it took some time for this technology to reach the motorcycle industry, better late than never. The fact is while the innovative technology is expensive since it is relatively new, with time those prices will drop and before you know it, it will become a standard feature on automobiles and motorcycles.
Considering the safety features may reduce rider and driver error, this is exciting technology for us all. I can’t wait to see what lies ahead.
