This past summer, I spent a week in Helen, Georgia. However, because last year we spent twenty-five days on the road riding the motorcycle and we had a cross-country camping trip planned for the end of summer, we decided this year we would travel by car. However, that doesn’t take away from the fact that we came across great roads for motorcycle riding.
Getting to Helen, of course, we took the boring way on the Turnpike throughout Florida, but, once we reached Helen, the roads were great for motorcycle riding. If you visit Helen or stay in the vicinity, know that all roads that lead into Helen are excellent for motorcycle riding. And while it is hot in Helen during the summer, one hundred degrees at five o’clock to be exact, most of the time the roads are shaded. As a matter of fact, at our cabin, it was always cool because the sun’s rays could not penetrate the canopy of trees. If it gets too hot while visiting in the summer, go tubing in the river which is a favorite at Helen.
If you happen to be there in October, it does get cool at night and you are guaranteed to have a good time in the Bavarian themed town with Oktoberfest coming up.
The next day while you are trying to get rid of that hangover, make sure to visit Unicoi State Park and Anna Ruby Falls. The path to the falls is paved, so it is an easy walk. While it can be steep at times, just sit down and catch your breath at some of the few sitting areas. After working up an appetite, we walked over to the picnic area of Anna Ruby Falls and just relaxed with a nice lunch and cigar afterwards.
