Promo for Gregg Allman’s album Southern Blood which will be released at the Midnight Rider’s Rally.

Whether you ride a motorcycle or not, you know the Allman Brothers Band classic “Midnight Rider.”

Gregg Allman, the legendary musician and member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, passed away on May 27, 2017, but his music will live on. When Allman passed away, he was working on an album titled Southern Blood.

Even though tragedies in Gregg Allman’s life were tied into motorcycles accidents, he loved motorcycles. His brother Duane, was killed while riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle on 10/29/71. He was twenty-four years old. A year later on 11/11/72, bassist Berry Oakley was also killed while riding his 1967 Triumph motorcycle. He was also twenty-four years old. The accident occurred three blocks from Duane’s accident. Duane and Berry were buried next to each other in Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon, Georgia.

To celebrate the new album release, there will be an event held on September 8 called “The Midnight Rider’s Rally” that will be hosted by select Harley Davidson dealers. Certain locations will even display personal items belonging to Greg Allman. There will be giveaways as well.

Registration is available in advance for $20 which will also allow you to get a download of Southern Blood. A portion of the registration fee will go to the Allman/Lehman Endowed Scholarship at Syracuse University which is a scholarship for students studying music.

Songs on Southern Blood include Allman performing with Bob Dylan, Jerry Garcia, Willie Dixon, Tim Buckley, Little Feat‘s Lowell George, and Jackson Browne.
