Florida continues to get closer to passing a stricter law on texting and driving.
In August of 2017, SB 90 -the Use of Wireless Communications Devices While Driving, was filed by Republican State Senator Keith Perry of Gainesville. It passed by a vote of 8-2 through the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Tourism, and Economic Development. The bill has already been through other committees: the Committee on Communications, Energy, and Public Utilities by a vote of 7-1 and the Committee on Transportation by a vote of 5-0.
One committee remains, the Committee on Appropriations, and if successful, then it will be heard in the state Legislature. The House also has an texting while driving bill pending known as known as HB 33.
