From Tail of the Dragon, we continued south on US-129-S through the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest and into Lake Winfield Scott. It isn’t far from Tail of the Dragon, less than one hundred miles and coming from Pigeon Forge, it was a total of one hundred sixty miles for the day and five thousand four hundred ten miles in total.
If you are riding through the Tail of the Dragon, I would recommend you continue into Helen, Georgia. Helen is a quaint town with a Bavarian theme. I have never visited in October, but with Oktoberfest, it should be fun. It is also a nice ride in/out.
Don’t get tunnel vision with the Dragon’s Tail. All of the riding within fifty to one hundred miles from there is excellent. Plan out your ride and be ready to ride through some of the most beautiful roads in the country.
