This past Sunday was the Annual Ride for the Archdioceses of Miami led by Archbishop Thomas Wenski. Archbishop Wenski was appointed as the fourth Archbishop in Miami by Pope Benedict XVI in April of 2010.
Hundreds of motorcyclists came together for the ride which included our own M.S.A.R. (Motorcycle Safety & Awareness Riders), Chrome Knights Motorcycle Association, Defenders LEMC, Nam Knights, in addition to other riding groups and independents. The ride was to benefit Catholic Charities St. Luke’s Center; an alcohol and drug rehabilitation center. The ride was also to honor the memory of Rene Sardiña, who was the President of Chrome Knights Motorcycle Association.
It began with an 8:30 a.m. mass held by Archbishop Wenski at the new Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Doral, Florida. From there, it was kick stands up with none other than Archbishop Wenski leading the group on his motorcycle. Yes, you read correct. The Archbishop loves to ride his Harley and smoke cigars. Who can blame him, those are two of my favorite past times as well.
The first stop was at the well known biker bar in the Everglades; Cafe 27. From there, the group left for Peterson’s Harley Davidson North Store where participants had a chance to win donated prizes. This was yet another great example of how the motorcycle community comes together to help out.
I admit, I’m not a church goer nor do I like to wake up early to ride, but if means riding with friends for a good cause with a Harley riding, cigar smoking Archbishop, count me in!
I cannot wait to do this ride again next year.
