Just last week I blogged about buying at Bonham’s Auction one of Steve McQueen’s motorcycles. Turns out, you would have needed $775,000. But, even then, that was not the highest price a motorcycle sold for at the auction held at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas.
An extremely rare Vincent Black Lightning sold not only for more than McQueen’s motorcycle, but also set a new record for the highest price ever paid for a single motorcycle at a public auction.
The 1951 Black Lightning motorcycle was one of only thirty built by Vincent in Stevenage, England. Racer Jack Ehret set a land speed record in Australia with it. The motorcycle sold for $929,000, but once additional fees are added for both the buyer and seller, the final price will surpass one million dollars.
